Strontium is naturally present in seawater at a concentration of about 8 to 10 mg/L. Chemically similar to calcium, it is incorporated by many calcifying organisms into their skeletons or shells. Its regular addition promotes the growth of corals, coralline algae, and other calcareous organisms, including tridacnid clams.
Reef Advantage Strontium restores and maintains strontium at levels observed in natural seawater. It is used by corals similarly to calcium and plays an essential role in sustaining growth, especially in densely populated reef aquariums.
This product is a highly concentrated strontium supplement, formulated with dry strontium chloride, ionically balanced, and can be added directly to the aquarium without prior preparation.
Type: strontium powder supplement.
Form: dry strontium chloride.
Concentration: approximately 30,000 ppm.
Quantity: 600 g.
The recommended strontium level in a reef aquarium is between 8 and 12 mg/L.
Use 6 g of product for 150 L of water, twice a week.
The product can be added directly to the aquarium.
For precise dosing, the use of a digital spoon scale is recommended.
Measure the strontium level, then follow the addition scheme above until reaching a concentration between 8 and 12 mg/L.
Each 6 g dose for 150 L increases strontium by about 2 mg/L.
The amount or frequency can be adjusted based on the tank's needs.
Thereafter, use as needed to maintain the strontium level.
After determining the strontium consumption rate, a continuous drip system can be set up.
The amount to add to the top-off water can be calculated using the following formula: m = v × s / 30, where m corresponds to the grams to add, v to the volume of the aquarium in liters, and s to the desired strontium increase in mg/L.
Example: to increase strontium by 6 mg/L in a 200 L aquarium, add 40 g to the top-off water.
Regularly test strontium using an appropriate test to avoid deviations.
Significant adjustments should be made gradually to not exceed the target concentration.
Excess strontium can lead to increased carbonate alkalinity loss.
Do not mix directly with a carbonate supplement.
It is recommended to space strontium and carbonate additions by at least 30 minutes or to do them on alternate days.
Reef Advantage Strontium is a technical supplement intended for reef aquariums. Regular monitoring of parameters is essential to ensure system stability and health.
