Reef Kalkwasser Seachem is a very high purity calcium hydroxide intended for the preparation of limewater (kalkwasser) solutions. It helps maintain calcium at levels close to those of natural seawater while contributing to pH stability in reef aquariums.
SEACHEM
Type: very pure calcium hydroxide.
Use: preparation of kalkwasser solution.
Function: maintenance of calcium and pH stabilization.
Impact: increases pH without directly affecting carbonate alkalinity.
Compatibility: reef aquarium.
Calcium hydroxide is used to prepare a limewater solution. This method allows direct maintenance of calcium and indirect maintenance of alkalinity, depending on the evaporation rate and CO2 concentration of the system.
If evaporation or CO2 supply is insufficient, a calcium or alkalinity supplement may be necessary using dedicated supplements, without ever mixing them directly with a kalkwasser solution.
Reef Kalkwasser is an economical and effective solution, but it requires diligence and regular monitoring. Beginner aquarists or those seeking a simpler solution may prefer alternative methods.
250 g, 500 g, 1 kg, 2 kg.
Never add Reef Kalkwasser directly into the aquarium.
Add 3 g (about 1 teaspoon) to 4 L of osmosis water and mix to dissolve.
For a fully saturated solution with pure water, add 6 g (2 teaspoons) for 4 L of water.
Administer the solution by dripping it into the aquarium.
Monitor pH and carbonate alkalinity and adjust the addition rate to maintain a stable pH between 8.3 and 8.4.
The addition of 4 L of a saturated solution to 150 L of water increases the calcium by approximately 24 mg/L.
Use only the clear solution above the deposit and avoid introducing any undissolved material into the aquarium.
Keep the container tightly closed and limit contact with air to prevent the formation and precipitation of calcium carbonate.
The sediments deposited at the bottom of the container after preparation are generally not reusable. Over time, calcium hydroxide reacts with CO2 to form calcium carbonate, which precipitates and does not redissolve.
