Matrix is an extremely porous inorganic biofiltration support, offering an active surface area exceeding 700 m² per liter. This unique structure allows the simultaneous development of nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria in the same media.
SEACHEM
Very high capacity biofiltration.
Control of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates.
Massive biological surface area exceeding 700 m² per liter.
Aerobic and anaerobic bacterial support.
Inert, non-degradable media.
No replacement necessary.
Unlike plastic biomedia limited to an external surface, Matrix has an internal and external macroporous structure. The pores are sized to host aerobic bacteria on the surface and anaerobic bacteria deeper within.
This dual colonization allows for the simultaneous removal of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates in a single filter, without the need for specific low-flow zones.
Use 250 ml of Matrix for approximately 200 liters of water.
Compatible with external filters, cartridge filters, wet/dry filters, and sumps.
No filter bag required in most setups.
Works effectively at all usual flow rates.
Matrix is completely inert and does not deplete over time. As bacteria are mostly internal, the media can be occasionally rinsed without altering biological performance.
Regular filter maintenance is recommended to prevent clogging by sediments and maintain optimal efficiency.
For faster biofilter startup, Matrix can be used in conjunction with Stability. If there is a greater need for low-flow denitrification, the addition of de❊nitrate can be considered.
