An LPS Coral with Spectacular Wavy Plates
The Echinopora lamellosa is a fascinating LPS coral, known for its growth in large wavy plates that provide a unique three-dimensional effect in a reef aquarium. Its vibrant colors, which range from green to blue depending on the lighting, make it a very popular coral among aquarists.
A Robust and Fast-Growing Coral
This Echinopora lamellosa is renowned for its relatively fast growth and high tolerance to moderate variations in water parameters. It gradually spreads, forming beautiful coral structures that are perfect for adding depth and contrast to a reef.
Ideal Conditions for Optimal Coloration
Lighting and Water Flow
To maximize its brightness and promote even growth, moderate to strong lighting is recommended, with an intensity of about 150-250 PAR. A medium water flow is sufficient to oxygenate its tissues and prevent sediment accumulation on its plates.
Water Parameters
Like all LPS corals, the Echinopora lamellosa requires stable and well-balanced water:
- Temperature: 24-26°C (75-79°F)
- Salinity: 35 ppt (1.025)
- pH: 8.0 - 8.4
- KH: 7-9 dKH
- Calcium: 400-450 ppm
- Magnesium: 1250-1350 ppm
- Nitrates: between 2 and 10 mg/L for optimal coloration
- Phosphates: between 0.02 and 0.08 mg/L
