Reef Calcium 500 ml Seachem – Organic Calcium for Reef Aquarium

Reef Calcium Seachem is a concentrated liquid supplement of polygluconate organic calcium, designed to maintain calcium in reef aquariums without altering the pH. It promotes coral growth while enhancing the bioavailability of calcium.

Main Features

Type of calcium: polygluconate organic calcium.

Function: maintains calcium and supports the growth of corals.

Concentration: 50,000 mg/L.

Effect on pH: no impact.

Compatibility: reef aquarium.

Principle and Bioavailability

Polygluconate increases the bioavailability of calcium and provides a metabolically usable energy source directly exploitable by corals. It also prevents precipitation and depletion of calcium in the system.

Unlike ionic calcium, the organic calcium in Reef Calcium is absorbed with reduced energy expenditure, allowing corals to maintain optimal growth even at lower overall calcium concentrations.

Use Alone or Combined

Reef Calcium can be used alone to maintain calcium, but it provides optimal results when used in conjunction with an ionic calcium supplement such as Reef Complete or Reef Advantage Calcium. In cases of significant deficiency, an ionic supplement or a water change is necessary to restore levels.

Recommended Values

It is recommended to maintain calcium between 380 and 420 mg/L, with alkalinity between 3 and 6 meq/L (8 to 17 dKH).

Available Sizes

100 ml, 250 ml, 500 ml, 4 L.

Dosage Instructions

Add 5 ml per 80 L of water twice a week. The amount or frequency can be increased according to growth response, not exceeding 15 ml per 80 L per day.

Each 5 ml dose increases calcium by about 3 mg/L.

Use a suitable calcium test for monitoring. It is not necessary to exceed 380 mg/L of total calcium when using this product. Color and clarity may vary between batches.

Important Considerations

Make adjustments gradually to avoid stressing corals and invertebrates. Do not mix directly with a carbonate supplement. It is recommended to space calcium and carbonate doses by at least 30 minutes or alternate them every other day.

FAQ

Risk of Algae Proliferation

Reef Calcium contains no nitrogen or phosphorus. The polygluconate is not a simple sugar and does not promote algae growth when used as recommended.

Compatibility with Calcium Tests

The calcium in Reef Calcium is in a complexed form and remains perfectly measurable with the majority of calcium tests available on the market.

Possible Presence of Crystals

The presence of crystals is normal and does not affect the quality of the product. They generally redissolve after shaking. Reef Calcium has an indefinite shelf life.

Difference with Reef Advantage Calcium and Reef Complete

Reef Calcium is intended for maintaining calcium through a highly bioavailable organic form. Reef Advantage Calcium and Reef Complete are ionic supplements designed to increase calcium levels. Combined use allows for complete and progressive management of calcium in reef aquariums.
