Reef Strontium 250 ml Seachem – liquid strontium supplement for reef aquariums

Reef Strontium is formulated to restore and maintain strontium at concentrations naturally found in seawater, without impacting the pH. It is intended for reef aquariums requiring a regular and easily assimilable supply.

Role of Strontium in Reefs

Strontium is naturally present in seawater at a concentration between 8 and 10 mg/L. Chemically similar to calcium, it is incorporated by many calcifying organisms into their structures, including corals, coralline algae, and tridacnid clams.

An adequate supply of strontium promotes regular and vigorous growth of calcareous structures, especially in reef aquariums with high biological density.

Advantages of the Gluconate Formulation

Reef Strontium contains strontium complexed in gluconate form, which improves its bioavailability and limits precipitation phenomena. The gluconate also provides a useful metabolic energy source for corals while inhibiting alkalinity depletion.

This formulation contains neither nitrogen nor phosphorus and does not promote algae proliferation in a properly maintained reef aquarium.

Usage Instructions

Beginner Level

Use 5 ml for 80 L of water, twice a week.

Advanced Level

Measure the strontium level, then follow the addition scheme until reaching a concentration between 8 and 12 mg/L.

Each 5 ml dose for 80 L increases strontium by approximately 0.6 mg/L.

The amount or frequency can be adjusted according to the system's needs.

Expert Level

After determining the strontium consumption rate, a continuous drip system can be set up.

The amount to add in the top-up water can be calculated using the following formula: m = 0.1 × v × s, where m corresponds to the milliliters to add, v to the aquarium volume in liters, and s to the desired increase in mg/L.

Important Considerations

The recommended strontium level is between 8 and 12 mg/L.

Significant adjustments should be made gradually to avoid any imbalance.

An excess of strontium can increase carbonate alkalinity loss.

Do not mix directly with a carbonate supplement.
