Nassarius coronatus – Detritivore Snail for Reef Aquarium
Nassarius coronatus is a marine snail specialized in eliminating organic waste. Perfect for reef aquariums, it is distinguished by its discreet yet effective behavior: it spends most of its time buried in the sand, only emerging to devour uneaten food leftovers by the fish.
An Essential Ally for Clean Sand
This burrowing gastropod actively contributes to substrate maintenance by stirring it, which limits anaerobic zones and helps maintain a healthy ecosystem. With its robust shell and primarily nocturnal activity, it is perfectly suited for aquariums populated with other peaceful invertebrates.
Maintenance Conditions
- Recommended minimum volume: 50 liters
- Temperature: 22°C to 27°C
- pH: 8.0 to 8.4
- Substrate: fine to medium sand, to be kept clean
- Water flow: moderate, to circulate waste to the bottom
Behavior and Compatibility
Nassarius coronatus is completely harmless to corals and other invertebrates. It can be kept in groups to maximize the effectiveness of bottom cleaning. This small snail remains discreet but becomes very active during feeding time, attracted by the smell of food remnants.
Things to Know After Receipt
It is common for a freshly arrived Nassarius to pretend to be dead by placing itself shell up, foot out. This behavior is a classic survival technique. If the snail still doesn't move after 48 hours, we advise you to contact us. During this inactive phase, it is important to avoid any aggression from shrimps, fireworms, or other opportunistic invertebrates.
