The JBL PROAQUATEST NO2 allows for precise monitoring of nitrite concentration in freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Nitrites are highly toxic nitrogen compounds that appear during bacterial imbalance or when starting a new aquarium.
Nitrites oxidize the hemoglobin in the blood of fish, preventing oxygen transport. A high concentration can cause severe stress or even death in fish. An increase in nitrites generally requires a significant water change.
Laboratory-type colorimetric test providing reliable readings with a comparative system compensating for the natural coloration of the water.
The test tubes are filled with the aquarium water to be tested. Reagents are added according to the instructions, and then the test tubes are placed in the comparator. The nitrite value is determined by comparison with the provided color chart.
In a newly set up freshwater aquarium, the test can be performed daily for about three weeks. In a saltwater aquarium, weekly checks are advised during startup. The test is also recommended in case of fish diseases or mortality.
