Matrix is a solid and extremely porous biological support whose internal and external structure offers exceptional active surface for nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria.

Operating Principle

The macropores of Matrix allow the installation of aerobic bacteria on the surface, responsible for the conversion of ammonia and nitrites, while the less oxygenated internal areas promote anaerobic denitrification.

Unlike plastic biomedia, Matrix offers usable internal and external surfaces, allowing the simultaneous removal of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates in a single filter.

Maintenance

Matrix does not deplete and does not require replacement. It can be rinsed if necessary without destroying the bacterial population, as the bacteria are mostly located inside the media.

Regular maintenance of the filter and mechanical pre-filtering are recommended to prevent clogging of the pores and maintain optimal efficiency.

Compatibility and pH

Matrix is completely inert and has no impact on pH or water chemistry. It can be used alone or in conjunction with other biological media depending on the tank's biological load.
