The Pseudanthias dispar, also known as the peach anthias, is a reef fish highly appreciated for its orange hues and its lively schooling behavior. Its elongated body with peach-yellow to orange reflections is accentuated by a bright red dorsal fin, making it particularly elegant in marine aquariums.
Originating from the Indian Ocean and the Pacific, the Pseudanthias dispar lives in schools on coral reefs exposed to a moderate current. In aquariums, it is crucial to respect this natural sociability by maintaining one male for every 3 to 4 females. This natural hierarchy prevents stress and aggressive behavior among females.
The aquarium must have a minimum volume of 600 liters to accommodate a stable group of anthias. A large space is required to allow them to swim freely, with sheltered areas and live rocks as refuges.
This peach anthias fish prefers seawater between 23° and 28°C, with a pH between 8 and 8.5. The water quality must be impeccable, especially nitrate-free, as this species is sensitive to dissolved pollutants. Good water circulation and an efficient protein skimmer are highly recommended.
Although it eats little in quantity, the Pseudanthias dispar requires very regular feeding, several times a day. Its ideal diet consists of:
This fish is peaceful with other reef species but does not tolerate haphazard intraspecific coexistence. Maintaining it in a structured group allows for a fascinating natural behavior and beautiful harmony in the tank.
With its soft colors and active behavior in open water, the Pseudanthias dispar is a reliable choice for reef aquariums looking to host a school of elegant, lively, and visually captivating anthias.
