MultiTest Marine pH and Alkalinity Seachem is a test kit designed to measure marine pH and total alkalinity. It uses a dye with a pronounced color change between 8.0 and 8.3 to facilitate reading in this critical range. Alkalinity can be read from the same sample in increments of 0.5 meq/L.
Compatibility: marine aquarium or high pH freshwater.
Number of tests: more than 75 tests per kit.
pH Reading: pronounced color change between 8.0 and 8.3.
pH Range Measured: 7.80 to 8.70.
pH Precision: detectable changes on the color chart in increments of 0.01 pH units.
Alkalinity Reading: increments of 0.5 meq/L from the same sample.
Alkalinity Range: 0 to ∞.
Multi-cavity Plate: up to 6 tests in parallel.
Reference Sample: included for validation.
Marine pH is generally 8.2 to 8.4. An aquarium dosed with limewater can reach 8.6. Natural seawater has a total alkalinity of 2 to 3 meq/L, while aquarium water is generally maintained between 4 and 6 meq/L.
This kit measures total alkalinity. Total alkalinity corresponds to the carbonates, bicarbonates, borates, and hydroxides present in the water, expressed in acid neutralization capacity in meq/L.
A reference measurement is not mandatory to use the kit. The reference solution allows validation of proper functioning by performing a standard test, replacing the aquarium sample with the reference sample.
