MultiTest Reef Special Seachem – Tests phosphate, silicate, and iodine/iodide for reef aquarium

MultiTest Reef Special Seachem is a combined test kit designed to accurately measure three key parameters in a reef aquarium: phosphate, silicate, and iodine/iodide. It combines three MultiTest tests in one box, allowing reliable seawater analysis using a multi-cavity plate that facilitates the simultaneous reading of multiple parameters.

Tests included in the kit

Silicate Test

The silicate test measures soluble silicates down to concentrations below 0.5 mg/L. Results are expressed in silicate. To obtain the concentration in silicon, simply multiply the measured value by 0.3. In reef aquariums, it is recommended to maintain silicate at 1 mg/L or less to limit the development of diatom algae.

Phosphate Test

The phosphate test measures inorganic phosphate at concentrations below 0.05 mg/L. It uses a yellow-green-blue color scale that is easy to interpret in seawater. In freshwater, phosphate concentrations may exceed the measurement range and require prior dilution of the sample.

Iodine / Iodide Test

The iodine/iodide test provides a precise quantitative measurement of this essential element for the growth of soft corals and hard corals. It measures iodine or iodide at concentrations below 0.005 mg/L, with a reading scale up to 0.10 mg/L.

Measurement Ranges and Precision

Validation with Reference Solutions

The use of reference solutions is not essential to perform the tests. However, they allow verifying the reliability of the kit by replacing the aquarium sample with a reference solution of known value.

Reading and Ergonomics

All MultiTest tests are performed on a white opaque multi-cavity plate. The color charts have a 5 cm reading window allowing precise color comparison and reliable interpretation of results.
