MultiTest Iron Seachem is a colorimetric test kit designed to accurately measure dissolved iron in planted freshwater aquariums or marine aquariums. It can detect very low iron concentrations, down to less than 0.05 mg/L, and is suitable for monitoring planted aquariums as well as controlling reef environments.
Measured parameter: total iron.
Compatibility: freshwater and marine aquariums.
Number of tests: more than 75 tests.
Method: colorimetric test.
Measures ionic iron and most chelated forms.
Reference solution included for validation.
Iron is an essential element in planted aquariums, directly involved in chlorophyll production and plant growth. In planted freshwater, a concentration between 0.1 and 0.2 mg/L is generally recommended.
In marine aquariums, iron is naturally present at extremely low concentrations, around 0.01 mg/L in natural seawater. It is not important in fish-only tanks, but concentrations above 0.5 mg/L can become toxic for some organisms and should be avoided.
Measurement range: from 0 to 2.0 mg/L of iron.
Detection threshold: less than 0.05 mg/L.
Precision: detectable increments of 0.05 mg/L.
The test is based on a specific colorimetric reaction of iron, producing a coloration proportional to the concentration present in the sample. The reading is done by visual comparison with the provided color chart, using the multi-cavity test plate.
The use of the reference solution is not mandatory for performing the measurements. However, it allows verification of the test's reliability by replacing the aquarium sample with the reference sample to confirm the precision of the kit.
