de❊nitrate Seachem 500 ml for aquarium

de nitrate is a natural high-porosity biological media designed for the removal of nitrates, nitrites, ammonia, and organic matter in marine and freshwater aquariums. Its internal structure allows for the simultaneous development of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.

Main Features

Media type: porous biological support.

Usage: marine and freshwater aquarium.

Biological action: aerobic nitrification and anaerobic denitrification.

Format: 500 ml.

Operating Principle

The geometry and pore distribution of de❊nitrate promote aerobic nitrification in the first few millimeters of the material, while anaerobic denitrification occurs at the core of the media. This transition is made possible by the progressive depletion of oxygen as water passes through the support.

The main mechanism for nitrate removal relies on anaerobic bacterial activity, comparable to that observed in reef rocks. Forcing water through the media significantly enhances the process's efficiency.

Flow Rate and Performance

At flow rates above 100 US gallons per hour, de❊nitrate functions only as an aerobic biological filter. At flow rates below 50 US gallons per hour, it acts both as an aerobic filter and as an anaerobic denitrifying filter.

Excessive flow rates should be avoided to allow a stable anaerobic environment to establish at the core of the media.

Dosage and Treatment Capacity

Volume of de❊nitrate Volume of aquarium treated
500 ml 100 to 200 L

After being in service for several days, nitrate concentrations gradually decrease to stabilize around 4 to 5 mg/L, depending on the biological load and initial concentration.

Installation and Use

Place de❊nitrate in a cartridge filter, chemical filtration module, canister filter, sump, or drip tray, ensuring that water circulates through the media.

The recommended flow rate should not exceed 200 L per hour. If a higher flow rate is unavoidable, the use of another biological support is advised.

It is recommended to rinse the media before use to remove residual dust.

Maintenance and Lifespan

de❊nitrate is a biomedia and does not deplete over time. As long as nitrates remain under control, the product retains its effectiveness.

However, pore clogging may reduce performance. Pre-filtering water with foam or fine mechanical filtration can sustainably prolong the media's effectiveness.

If initial nitrate concentrations are very high, they should be lowered below 20 mg/L through water changes before using the product.

Biological media intended for aquarist use. Regular monitoring of aquarium parameters is recommended.
