Zebrasoma desjardinii, commonly known as the western sailfin tang, is a majestic fish with contrasting colors, perfect for large reef tanks. Tricolored, it is distinguished by white and black stripes, yellow bands, and a subtle light blue gradient across the body. Its large sail-like dorsal and anal fins give it an imposing and elegant appearance.
A Robust and Impressive Fish
Belonging to the Acanthuridae family, the Zebrasoma desjardinii can reach up to 40 cm in adulthood, although most individuals reach about 28 cm. This tang is renowned for its great resilience, vitality, and its natural algae-based diet. It spends much of its day grazing on algae on live rocks and the substrate, helping maintain the biological balance of the aquarium.
It can live alone or in groups in very large volumes but remains territorial with its peers, especially in confined spaces. It is important to introduce it after other fish to limit dominant behaviors.
