Matrix Seachem 500 ml for aquarium

Matrix is a high-porosity inorganic biological media designed to ensure effective biofiltration of nitrogenous waste in marine and freshwater aquariums. Its macroporous structure allows for the simultaneous development of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria.

Main Features

Structure and Biological Surface

Matrix consists of solid porous particles approximately 10 mm in diameter. Each liter of media provides a biological surface area greater than about 700 m², thanks to external and internal porosity.

Unlike plastic biomedia limited to an external surface, Matrix offers an internal macroporous surface allowing colonization by both nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria within the same filter.

Biological Functioning

Aerobic bacteria develop on the external surfaces of the media and ensure the conversion of ammonia and nitrite. The less oxygenated internal areas promote anaerobic denitrification and contribute to nitrate reduction.

Matrix thus allows for the simultaneous elimination of ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate under varied flow conditions.

Recommended Dosage

Recent studies indicate that Matrix can treat water volumes greater than initial estimates, depending on the biological load and filter conditions.

Installation and Compatibility

Matrix can be used in all types of filters, including cartridge filters, trickle filters, sumps, and canister filters. It is particularly effective in cartridge filters.

The particle size generally makes the use of a filter bag unnecessary.

Maintenance and Durability

Matrix is completely inert, does not decompose, and does not require replacement. Since most bacteria are located inside the media, occasional rinsing does not damage the biofilter.

Clogging by debris can reduce efficiency. Regular filter maintenance and good mechanical prefiltration help maintain optimal performance.

Impact on Water Parameters

Matrix has no direct impact on water pH and does not release any substances that alter the chemical parameters of the aquarium.
