Role of Cobalt in Reef Aquariums

Cobalt is involved in the photosynthesis of zooxanthellae and contributes to the balance of biological processes related to the tissues of corals. Controlled supplementation contributes to the stability of the ecosystem, for both corals and microbial communities.

In fish, cobalt is associated with the production of vitamin B12, which is involved in essential biological functions, particularly those related to metabolism.

Possible Causes of Deficiency

A decrease in cobalt levels can be linked to a poor synthetic salt base, intensive filtration, or the absence of trace element supplementation. An ICP analysis can precisely identify discrepancies and allow for targeted correction.
