Cittarium pica – Nocturnal Reef-Grazing Snail
Cittarium pica is a marine snail native to the Indo-Pacific region, recognizable by its spiral beige shell marbled with black. Primarily active at dusk and dawn, it plays an essential role in the natural maintenance of the reef aquarium.
An excellent algae grazer
This gastropod is a very efficient algae grazer, particularly suited for well-established aquariums with rocky surfaces, glass, or substrates colonized by algae. It contributes to the natural regulation of the algal film without disrupting the tank's balance or bothering other inhabitants.
Nocturnal and discreet activity
Unlike other snails active during the day, the Cittarium pica moves and feeds mostly at night, making it an ideal addition to a varied cleaning crew. It naturally frequents rocky intertidal zones and coral reefs rich in microalgae.
Maintenance conditions
- Recommended volume: starting from 50 liters
- Temperature: 24°C to 26°C
- pH: 8.0 to 8.4
- Decor: live rocks, areas exposed to algae
- Activity: nocturnal and discreet
Why choose Cittarium pica?
- Unique beige and black shell, easily recognizable
- Highly efficient algae grazer
- Active at night, complementary to other diurnal detritivores
- Perfect for keeping rocks and glass clean
- Ideal for a balanced reef aquarium
Cittarium pica is a decorative and useful snail for any aquarist looking for a natural solution against algae. With its nocturnal lifestyle and robustness, it integrates perfectly into a lively and mature reef tank.
