Calcium Professional Test 50T – Royal Nature Calcium Test

The Calcium Professional Test 50T from Royal Nature is a colorimetric test designed to accurately measure the calcium concentration in marine and reef aquarium water. Each kit allows for up to 50 tests.

Main Features

Test type: calcium.

Number of tests: 50.

Usage: marine and reef aquarium.

Method: colorimetric titration.

Testing Instructions

Each kit allows for 50 tests.

Using the 2.5 ml syringe, add exactly 2 ml of Ca-1 into the test vial.

Then add a flat spoonful of 0.15 ml of Ca-2 powder into the test vial and shake.

The solution should appear dark purple.

Using the 1 ml syringe, firmly attach the metal needle and draw aquarium water until the lower end of the black rubber on the syringe precisely reaches the 1.00 ml mark.

Before this step, ensure the needle is free of any liquid and remains submerged in the water throughout the operation to prevent any air entry.

The presence of an air layer between the liquid and the black part of the syringe is normal and does not affect the result. This air layer typically corresponds to 0.1 ml.

Add the aquarium water into the test vial drop by drop, shaking slightly after each drop, until the solution turns light purple.

Useful Information

Before any use, ensure the test vial is washed only with osmosis water and dried with a soft paper.

If the solution in the test vial does not reach the expected color after using all the water from the syringe, start again from the step of adding aquarium water. This indicates a calcium concentration lower than 320 ppm.

If after adding 1.00 ml of water a second time, the color still does not change, the calcium concentration is lower than 160 ppm.

Test Without Metal Needle

A faster test can be performed without the metal needle, with a potential error margin of 3%.

Note the position of the lower black part of the syringe, each division corresponding to 0.01 ml, then refer to the correspondence table to obtain the calcium concentration.

Readings should always be taken at the lower end of the black rubber on the syringe.

If the water addition step needs to be repeated a second time, use the appropriate correspondence table to determine the calcium concentration.

The calcium concentration in natural seawater is about 400 ppm. It is recommended to maintain calcium in the aquarium between 390 and 440 ppm.

In case of a calcium deficiency, the use of suitable supplements helps maintain the parameters within the recommended range.
