Magnesium Professional Test 50T – Royal Nature Magnesium Test

The Magnesium Professional Test 50T by Royal Nature is a colorimetric test designed to accurately measure the magnesium concentration in marine and reef aquarium water. Each kit allows for up to 50 tests.

Main Features

Test type: magnesium.

Number of tests: 50.

Usage: marine and reef aquarium.

Method: colorimetric titration.

Testing Instructions

Each kit allows for 50 tests. It is recommended to perform the calcium test before measuring magnesium.

Using the 2.5 ml syringe, add exactly 2 ml of Mg-1 into the test vial.

Then add a flat spoonful of 0.15 ml of Mg-2 powder into the test vial and shake.

The solution should appear blue.

Using the 1 ml syringe, securely attach the metal needle and draw aquarium water until the lower end of the black rubber on the syringe precisely reaches the 1.00 ml mark.

Before this step, ensure the needle is free of any liquid and remains immersed in the water throughout the operation to avoid air entry.

The presence of an air layer between the liquid and the black part of the syringe is normal and does not affect the result. This air layer generally corresponds to 0.1 ml.

Add the aquarium water to the test vial drop by drop, stirring slightly after each drop, until the solution turns purple.

Useful Information

Before any use, ensure the test vial is washed only with osmosis water and dried with a soft paper.

If the solution in the test vial does not reach the expected color after using all the water in the syringe, repeat the water addition step. This indicates a magnesium concentration lower than 970 ppm.

If after adding a second 1.00 ml of water the color still does not change, the magnesium concentration is below 360 ppm.

Normal magnesium concentrations range from 1280 to 1540 ppm, depending on salinity.

The result is considered accurate when the calcium concentration is between 350 and 450 ppm. If calcium is outside this range, the magnesium result should be adjusted using the correspondence table.

In natural seawater, the magnesium concentration is about 1350 ppm. It is recommended to maintain magnesium in the aquarium between 1290 and 1450 ppm.

Test without Metal Needle

A quicker test can be conducted without the metal needle, with a potential margin of error of 2%.

Note the position of the lower black part of the syringe, each division corresponding to 0.01 ml, then refer to the correspondence table to obtain the magnesium concentration.

Readings should always be taken at the lower end of the black rubber of the syringe.

If the water addition step needs to be repeated a second time, use the appropriate correspondence table to determine the magnesium concentration.

In case of low magnesium levels, using suitable supplements can help maintain parameters within the recommended range.
