Ammonia Professional Test 100T – Royal Nature Ammonia Test

The Ammonia Professional Test 100T by Royal Nature is a colorimetric test designed to measure the total concentration of ammonia NH3 and ammonium NH4 in marine and reef aquarium water. The results are expressed in PPM, and each kit allows for up to 100 tests.

Test Instructions

Using the 2 ml syringe, add 2 ml of aquarium water into the test vial.

Add 5 drops of NH3-1 reagent into the test vial and gently shake for 10 seconds.

The solution turns yellow, corresponding to 0 mg/L of ammonia on the color chart. It is recommended to compare the obtained color with the zero value on the color chart before proceeding.

Then add 5 drops of NH3-2 reagent into the test vial and gently shake for 10 seconds.

Let the solution stand for 5 minutes.

Hold the test vial next to the provided color chart, on a white area, and observe the color by looking at the side of the vial. An intermediate color corresponds to an intermediate ammonia concentration.

Keep out of reach of children.

Ammonia reagents can cause severe burns. In case of contact with skin or eyes, rinse thoroughly with clear water. In case of an accident or discomfort, consult a doctor immediately.

Before any use, ensure the test vial and measuring instruments are washed only with osmosis water and dried with a soft paper.

NH3-1 and NH3-2 reagents should always be stored in a dark place, ideally in their original box, to limit exposure to light.

Understanding Ammonia in the Aquarium

Ammonia can be present in two forms in water:

Free ammonia NH3.
Ammonium ion NH4.

NH3 + H = NH4.

Free ammonia NH3 is highly toxic. The ratio between NH3 and NH4 depends heavily on pH. The lower the pH, the more the NH4 form is dominant. At a pH between 8.0 and 8.4, the NH3 form becomes predominant.

The Royal Nature Ammonia kit measures the total concentration of NH3 and NH4. The color diagram allows for determining concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 5 mg/L.

In reef aquariums, ammonia levels should remain below 0.04 mg/L and should not be detectable by the test.
